ABOUT
JULIE MAKOHON
OWNER, OPERATOR & HEAD TRAINER
I can’t say I grew up dreaming of working with dogs, because in all honesty, I didn’t. I grew up sport mad and wanting to play volleyball for Australia, but I did that with a few awesome dogs in my life and that, I’ve come to learn, is how I’ve ended up here, running my own business in the company of my own dream dog, an awesome Aussie Shepherd.

Because my family always had dogs, I didn’t really know life without them. They were such a normal part of my life, that I never questioned the relationship shared with them, not until the loss of a beautiful Murray River Retriever called Shoomka. She was my brother’s family dog, with whom I shared a unique bond, different from all the others. Somehow we just worked, without deliberate training or command. Harmony was gained without effort, without know-how, without call and this fascinated me.

It was this fascination that set me on the road to finding out more and enrolling to complete a Certificate III in Dog Behaviour and Training through the National Dog Trainers Federation (NDTF). From there my interest only grew and so too my passion for the industry. Once the love set in, At Ease Dog Training was born, to first and foremost help owners connect with their dog(s), to better lead the way, in a way that’s rewarding for all.

Should you wish to touch base, please know that I'm a trainer who focusses heavily on engagement and connection via play as well as work. If you’re ready to put in the ongoing effort, I’m ready to help you and your dog(s) become a solid team.
